The Jungle Crows are a rugby club based in the city of Kolkata (Calcutta). The club was formed in 2004 and has a very strong focus on the development of rugby and the young people we coach to play.
The Crows first ever competitive match took place in Kolkata’s Giorgiardis Sevens tournament hosted by the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club (CCFC) in August 2004. The Crows entered two teams – one playing in blue shirts and the other in green. The team in green won their first game against CCFC, the team in blue lost. Thus the colour was decided upon for our playing shirt – green!
In 2008 the Jungle Crows won both of Kolkata’s senior fifteen-a-side competitions; the Centenary Cup and the Calcutta Cup. We also qualified for the ‘All India and South East Asia Tournament’ hosted by CCFC. |
Jungle Crows junior teams performed very well in 2008. Our U20s reached the final of both the national 12-a-side and 7-a-side competitions, narrowly losing out in both. Our U16s reached the semi final of the nationals also.
The Jungle Crows also run an extensive rugby development programme. We welcome coaches and players at every level who would like to get involved in this. We are now involved in developing rugby in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Imphal.
Our aim in establishing the Jungle Crows was to give a new club option to anybody who wants to enjoy rugby, at any level. We guarantee a warm welcome and a friendly playing environment.
